Name.

David James Watson

Boating Experience

I am 58 years of age, this will be my 5th season as a CSC member and I started sailing at the age of 54 years. This is my first and only boat, and I bought her in May 2008 having had no experience of sailing whatsoever, so complete novice.

Present Boat

Newbridge Navigator named ' Relax '

Builder and Background

She is a Robert Tucker design with a Yamaha 8HP two-stroke inboard / outboard, four full size 6 foot berths, Tyrone Snell twin axle trailer, original mainsail and genoa.'Relax' has a long ballast keel, masthead rig, large cockpit, very stable and reasonably capable for coastal sailing.

Relax' was built in 1983, originally launched in Falmouth, then moved to Lake Windermere, and also Coniston Water, and now to Carsington Water.
I use a wooden A-frame that I fabricated myself, following instructions in the NAVA handbook, to raise and lower the mast single-handed.

Construction

  • LOA is 19 feet ( 5.8m )
  • LWL is 16 feet 8 ins. ( 5.09m )
  • Beam is 7 feet 6 ins (2.34m )
