Carsington Water . Ashbourne . Derbyshire
Welcome to the Cruiser Fleet, a friendly bunch who enjoy fantastic sailing, warm hands and dry feet!
Carsington Cruiser Fleet members have wide ranging sailing interests which include: pottering about on Carsington, cruising around various parts of the British coast and racing around the cans both here at the club and further afield.
Whatever your age or sailing ability a warm welcome awaits you within the cruiser fleet.
We sail a variety of boats including the: Hawk 20, Squib, Parker 21, First 18 and Limbo.
Many of our fleet members enjoy racing their boats and further information designed to help you choose a Cruiser suitable for racing at Carsington is available on this website.
In addition the Clubs Measurement Committee have approved around fifty different types of cruiser for use at Carsington ensuring that there is a cruiser to suit everyone.
The fleet race at Carsington on Saturdays so the “pond” isn’t too crowded. Even if you aren’t particularly competitive there is no better way to sharpen your boat handling skills than a bit of light hearted racing and we would encourage everyone to have a go. You never know you might enjoy it! Our first race starts at 11am with afternoon racing starting at 1:15pm. When we are out there we do race to win, but we don’t take it too seriously (most of the time!) as we want everyone to enjoy their cruiser sailing.
If you are interested in sailing a cruiser, or just trying one, or if you would like further information about cruiser sailing in general please ask any fleet member or contact Lawrence Key our Fleet Captain who will be happy to help. Lawrence can be contacted by e-mail.
Fleet News and Reports
The cruiser fleet racing results are kindly compiled by Lawrence Key on a voluntary basis and once calculated they are posted on the results section of the club website. As the time of posting will inevitably vary depending upon Lawrence's commitments, an e-mail notification is sent out whenever the Cruiser Fleet results have been updated.
If you would like to receive this notification, please let Lawrence know or e-mail email@example.com.
To calculate the results we use the NHC system which was released by the RYA in 2013.
We have adopted their recommended 15% variation in order to re-calculate handicaps after every race.
