Stargazing Evening - Saturday 20th February 2016

Stargazing Evening - Saturday 20th February 2016

Carsington Sailing Club is teaming up with the Derby and District Astronomical Society (DDAS) to bring to you the chance to find out about the science of astronomy and to view the night sky.

A member of the Astronomical Society will make a presentation that will cover:

  • The links between Astronomy and Navigation
  • The use of the Sextant
  • John Flamsteed and the Longitude problem
  • How to find your way around the night sky.

Following a Q&A session we will then go outside to learn more about the night sky (weather permitting).

Suitable for total beginners and those with some knowledge who want to know more. The event will also be a great chance for members of the 2 organizations to meet up.

Start time is 7.45pm. If you have binoculars or a telescope bring them along and get guidance on their use when viewing the stars and planets.

The bar will be open. Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be available at a small charge.

There is no charge for this event but donations gratefully received on the night (to be shared between DDAS and the Sailing Club).

This replaces the postponed event originally scheduled for 21st November 2015

Anyone wishing to attend please advise via e-mail to: The Social Chairman or contact the Club Office.
