Commodores Cup

The Commodores Cup was held over the weekend of 10th / 11th July, with racing for the Cruiser fleet on Saturday and Dinghies on Sunday.

On Saturday evening many members enjoyed drinks on the terrace, catching up with friends and a superb hog roast.

Many thanks go to Tim and Donna Ramsell for preparing the hog roast and looking after the bar duties. Also many thanks to John and Kim Vant who provided entertainment for the children, many of whom could be seen running around the dinghy park taking part in a Treasure Hunt (at least I assume that's what it was).

As for the racing the Cruiser Trophy was won by Lawrence Key.

On Sunday the first race was due to start at 10.30. About 28 boats turned out for this and drifted down towards no.4 where it was thought the wind would be. Unfortunately the wind disappeared altogether and so racing was abandoned for the morning and everyone drifted back to shore.
The wind picked up a little after lunch and 3 races were held with the fleet having been reduced to 18 boats.
Richard and Eilidh Harvey lead the way with 3 firsts to win the event overall and take the Fast Fleet Trophy.
The racing was a bit closer amongst the Singlehanders - with the event reduced to 3 races this meant that all 3 would count.  After 2 races John Webster (Solo) was leading with 8 points from Will Gould (Blaze) 10 points and Jeremy Lane (Solo) 11 points. So it was all on the last race - it was one of those rare occasions when John got it wrong on the last beat and finished 7th, Will was 4th and Jeremy 3rd. So John finished with 15 points whilst Jeremy and Will both had 14 - Jeremy being placed first Singlehander based on the last race.
The Medium Fleet Trophy was won by Stephen and Rosie Blake (RS200) who finished ahead of Mick Steer and Stuart Harvey in the 2000.
The Flying Fifteen Trophy went to David Cattermole and Ian Jenkinson.

Well done to all the Trophy winners and those that took part.

Summer Series 2

Summer Series 2 for dinghies starts on Sunday 25th July. Start times are as normal (ie. 10.30 in the morning, 13.30 afternoon), BUT there will only be two fleet starts. The Medium fleet and SJ fleet combine to make a Mixed Handicap fleet, the Asymmetrics will continue with their own fleet start. This series will run for 6 weeks until 29th August.

Supernova Open Meeting

Whilst the Commodores Cup was taking place on Sat 10th July there was also a rearranged Supernova / Comet open meeting. The original event in early June was cancelled due to no wind. It was a much reduced fleet as expected with the nationals being held just the week before and also light winds threatened again.
5 Supernovas took part with 3 from CSC and 2 visitors. Tom Baldwin won all 3 races to win the event overall with Karen Squire 2nd overall and Tim Richardson 4th.
The Comet fleet consisted of 3 boats, all visitors.
