Commodore's News Sept 2018

Published 01:00 on 30 Sep 2018

The weather continues to be fickle with winds.

The AGM will be on 11th October. Please come along to hear Reports from the Hon Treasurer and the Commodore, ask questions, and vote on the new committee.
Last year we arranged for the Galley to provide food before the AGM, which helps if you are coming straight from work. We also arranged for sandwiches after the AGM to aid the drive home. There will be similar arrangements this year.
You should have received copies of the AGM documentation. If not please contact the office.
Co-opted Management Committee members. In September we beefed up the MC by co-opting and welcoming Phil Holland, Andy Rothwell and John Vant.

Paddleboarding. Some have asked why Paddleboarding?
Members, particularly those with families, commented that on the many days this summer with very light winds there was little point in coming up to the club as their children needed a little more wind to sail. They suggested Paddleboarding would entertain the kids, make the club more attractive in the summer. Similarly windsurfing can fill the activity gap when the winds are high
The Club wants to retain and grow membership. Paddleboarding and windsurfing are attractive to 20 – 30 year olds. The club is short of this age group.

Pontoons: The summer was sunny and dry. Severn Trent has drawn down water causing the water level to fall significantly. To help with launching we are experimenting by moving pontoons. One is to form a ‘T’ with the north pontoon. The second is placed just south of the Dick Dalton slipway. Please give me your feedback verbally or email (commodore@CarsingtonSC.co.uk).

Rock Choir: At the 25 anniversary celebrations we were entertained by Rock Choir of which my wife, Rosie, is a member. They were on TV at the Prom in the (Hyde) Park. “Trust me, I am a Doctor” have been testing the “high” from singing in a choir, using Rosie and 8 fellow Rockies from Derbyshire. The results can be seen on BBC2 at 8pm on 26th September or follow this link to Trust me. Should we start a CSC singing group?
