Sailing Committee News: -

Over the weekend of 8th / 9th June CSC hosted a Topper Nationwide Open Meeting which was attended by 161 competitors. Despite the strong winds forecast for the Saturday the Race Officer managed to fit in the scheduled 3 races plus 3 on Sunday making for an excellent series. There has been great feedback from the Topper Association and they have already requested to return in May next year for their Inland Championship. Thank you to all those CSC members who volunteered over the weekend and to Andy Banks for organising it all.

The weekend of 22nd / 23rd June was The Commodores Cup and whilst unfortunately the racing for Cruisers and Sailability did not go ahead on the Saturday, there was racing for dinghies on Sunday. There was a good turnout of 35 boats and four races were held. Congratulations to Richard Harvey and Mick Steer (2000) who were the overall winners winning all four races; Stephen Blake and Rob McPherson (Wayfarer) were 2nd overall. The 1st single hander and 3rd overall was Richard Simms (Phantom), with Evan Cairns (Solo) 2nd single hander. The 1st fast handicap boat and 4th overall was Phil Robinson and Jo Scurrah (RS400).

Coming up in the next few weeks are: -
Saturday 6th July - DYS (Derbyshire Youth Sailing) event. 3 volunteers for Safety cover are still required, please look on Duty Roster if you are able to help.
Saturday 13th July - Combined Laser and Phantom Open Meeting.

The Solo Open Meeting which was cancelled in May due to no wind is provisionally rearranged for Saturday 27th July.
The Sunday Summer 2 Series for dinghies starts on 21st July. Remember that this series just has two fleet starts - a mixed handicap fleet and an asymmetric fleet for both morning and afternoon. Start times are still 1030 for the first morning race, 2nd race back to back and 1330 for the first afternoon race, 2nd race back to back.
The Sunday Autumn series for dinghies starts on 8th September. For this series we switch back to three fleet starts BUT PLEASE NOTE that the start time for the morning race will be 1100, with just a single race in the morning. For the afternoon there will be two races with the first start at 1330 and the 2nd race back to back. This is being trialled in the Autumn Series whilst we gauge feedback from members to see if it is something we wish to continue with next year. This is being done to try and address the issue of having short races in the morning, with low turnouts and slippage in start times which has a knock-on effect on afternoon racing. With just one race in the morning it should allow time for a longer race more consistent with Average Lap Timing.

Finally - for those racing on Wednesday afternoons, previously this has been done with just one person on the committee boat, but with the increasing number of boats racing this is going to be changed to two people (i.e. RO plus ARO). This is not set up on Duty Roster just yet, but look out for the change in the near future.
