Derbyshire Youth Sailing (DYS)

DYS is a volunteer run organisation, which provides racing and training for school age sailors throughout the County of Derbyshire. DYS is all about having fun, making new long term friends and taking that next step in developing your sailing skills outside of your club environment.

DYS was formed in 2000 to ensure youth sailing continued in Derbyshire when school sailing came to an end. DYS is affiliated to the RYA and the NSSA (National Schools Sailing Association). We are also part of DSSA (Derbyshire Schools Sports Association) and are the official body in Derbyshire for awarding County Colours in Sailing.

All sailors aged 18 and under who are members of a Derbyshire club, attend a Derbyshire school or live in Derbyshire are automatically members of DYS. There is no joining fee. All you have to do is come along to any of our events or training and start joining in the fun.

You dont have to own your own boat or transport a boat as boats are available to hire at the different venues.

We run a handicap race series during the year, with events at each of the 10 Derbyshire clubs. The series is aimed at youth sailors of any ability, from just starting racing to sailing at National level. If you can sail a triangular course, then you are ready to join us. Unlike normal racing, where possible, we provide on water coaching and support to anyone who is losing contact with the fleet.

We look forward to welcoming you at our next DYS event. Please contact us, if you would like any more information.  DYS website link
