Carsington Sailability
For many years Carsington Sailing Club has hosted a Sailability Group, originally known as Derbyshire Sailing Endeavour.
The group has both disabled and able bodied members whose main objective is to bring the sport of sailing to others.
Recently the operational section of Sailability became a fully integrated part of Carsington Sailing Club, leaving the charitable element to be managed as a separate entity.
The group meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the sailing season.
Sailability has excellent facilities and equipment and has a well maintained fleet of sailing boats specifically designed for those with limited mobility.
Each year Sailability runs a variety of events, including Fun Days and Training Sessions. 2012 will be no exception. One of the main events is the “Duke of Devonshire” Trophy which forms part of a national sailing event and is usually attended by sailors from many parts of the country who compete both nationally and internationally.
Carsington Sailability has been successful in obtaining a grant for 2012 of £1,000.00 to help launch a new initiative called “No Boundaries”. This project will enable the group to run sail training sessions for people who are interested in the sport and have a disability.
The group is looking forward to a busy 2012 and is always happy to meet people who are interested in getting involved in sailing or who are willing to help.
