2018 September Cruiser Fleet Newsletter

Published 01:00 on 30 Sep 2018

As everyone will have noticed the tide is out and the South Jetty and Slipway became unusable during August.  So, Lawrence Key and the Club Manager moved two of the pontoons from the South to the North Slipway before they became marooned on the mud.

The North Jetty has been made into a ‘T’ shape in order to create plenty of opportunities for boats to come safely alongside, head-to-wind, in a stiff breeze from almost every direction.

Plainly, the North Jetty will be under considerable pressure from all users during the Autumn and Winter Months because the Central Slipway will also become too shallow to use by a range of boats.

Unfortunately the North Slipway is narrow, so launch and recovery will only be possible from one side of the jetty.  This means that everyone will need to be fully prepared for a very quick launch and recovery or a queue of boats will develop and people be kept waiting for a slot.

On a more cheerful note the Autumn Series is now well-underway with some very close racing, including three Sailability Hansa 303s, in their own series, using the Cruiser start and finish sequences.

The Hawk20 SN008 participated in the Royal Fowey Regatta and won a creditable 14th out of 30 in the two Passage races to Falmouth despite racing against some very large cruisers with some very unusual yardstick numbers.  They also achieved a very good 4th overall in the St Austel Bay Series again against some larger boats with some unbelievable yardstick numbers.  Congratulations to Lawrence Key, Tim Wherely & Ian Jenkinson for flying the flag for Carsington.
