Sailing Committee News November 2018

Published 21:03 on 29 Nov 2018

Your new committee have been working hard to put together a calendar for 2019.

The usual Club racing together with Open Meetings for several classes, and the Topper Nationals on 8/9th June, when Club racing will be suspended for the weekend, due to the number of competitors expected.

We'll also be having the Commodore's Cup weekend on 22/23rd June, and will also be having a Charity Regatta when we fix a date.

You'll have noticed that water levels have continued to fall, making launch and recovery difficult for dinghies, and no longer possible for keel boats.
Be assured we are doing all we can to ensure sailing continues. Dick Dalton has twice spread gravel either side of his slipway to help avoid the mud. The MC bought 100 tonnes of gravel, and hired a JCB to facilitate this.
The second visit just before the Optimist event was helped by ST lending us their JCB which saved us money.

Long term your MC is asking what ST intend to do to help access when the water is low, as this is becoming an annual event.
We all expect to be able to sail for the whole season; that's not been the case this year for many members. Let's hope the Derwent river levels increase allowing ST to pump water back in soon.

Your SC committee have been adding boats to the approved list as members and new members request them. We are committed to increase membership while we have berth capacity.

Don't forget the upcoming Cruiser fleet dinner and prizegiving on 30th November, and the Xmas Cracker and Prize-giving on 16th December.

The final event for 2018 being the Boxing Day pursuit race.
