RYA Stage 3

From beginner to sailor.

Prerequisites: RYA Stage 2 or equivalent experience

Recommended: Confident in controlling boat speed and direction.

This challenging course will transition junior sailors from supervised beginners to independent sailors. Students will elevate their tacking and gybing skills to the point that they can confidently sail in any direction. They will add to their theoretical knowledge and develop advanced manoeuvres like coming alongside and recovering a man overboard. Students can begin to independently plan their time on the water by considering personal equipment, weather forecasts, and first aid.

By the end of the course, students can regard themselves as sailors, not beginners. They will be able to discuss with their instructor how to take their sailing to the next level through racing, further courses, exploring different classes of boats, or going coastal. Upon completion of the course, students may aim to join the Carsington Youth Fleet.

Duration 16 hours

Ratio: Up to 6 students per instructor

Minimum age 8

Prices - £175 per stage - £150 per stage for members
